چکیده

For three or more fluid phases in thermodynamic equilibrium and in contact with a solid surface, the Young equation can be used to find relations between the contact angles for different pairs of fluids. For a n-fluid-phase system, n(n-1)/2 contact angles can be defined, but there are (n-1)(n-2)/2 constraints between them, leaving only n-1 independent values of the contact angle. These constraints are very powerful in limiting and determining possible types of wetting behavior. The consequences are discussed for threeand four-phase flow. They have important applications for the understanding of, for instance, gas injection processes in petroleum reservoirs.

An Irregular Lattice Pore Network Model Construction Algorithm

Pore network modeling uses a network of pores connected by throats to model the void space of a porous medium and tries to predict its various characteristics during multiphase flow of various fluids. In most cases, a non-realistic regular lattice of pores is used to model the characteristics of a porous medium. Although some methodologies for extracting geologically realistic irregular net...

A New Approach for Constructing Pore Network Model of Two Phase Flow in Porous Media

Development of pore network models for real porous media requires a detailed understanding of physical processes occurring on the microscopic scale and a complete description of porous media morphology. In this study, the microstructure of porous media has been represented by three dimensional networks of interconnected pores and throats which are designed by an object oriented approach. Af...

Flow in porous media pore-network models and multiphase flow

In the last 3 years there has been a huge increase in the use of pore-scale modeling to study multiphase flow and transport in porous media. Starting from single pore models of fluid arrangements, computations of relative permeability, interfacial area, dissolution rate and many other physical properties have been made. Combined with a realistic description of the pore space, predictive modelin...

Mathematical Models of Flow in Porous Media

In this chapter a general model for the two-phase fluid flow in porous media is presented, together with its simplified form, known as the Richards equation, which is applicable (under specific assumptions) to describe water flow in the vadose zone. In each case the governing equations are formulated at the Darcy scale, using the capillary pressure–saturation relationship and an empirical exten...
